Founded by much-loved star Pauline Quirke in 2007, the Pauline Quirke Academy provides stage and screen performance training to thousands of children and young people every weekend. Jill Goff, Production Co-ordinator, explains how TicketSource helps the Academy deliver its special West End shows.

How does the Pauline Quirke Academy operate?

There are over 170 Academies across the UK, each individually managed by an Academy Principal. We provide weekend sessions in term-time to over 13,000 students aged 4 to 18 in comedy, drama, musical theatre, film and television. The students are grouped by age, and each discipline is taught by industry professionals with specialist experience.

Why do you use TicketSource?

The Academy offers its students the opportunity to perform in London’s West End in a specially-written musical at Her Majesty’s Theatre. The theatre is a major venue – it’s home to the Phantom of the Opera and has a capacity of over 1,200. The Academies rehearse for nine months and then come to London to perform live on stage on a Sunday evening. The show features three Academies performing two scenes each from a storyline that runs across two acts. Although Her Majesty’s Theatre has its own box office, we use Ticketsource as it gives us real-time understanding of audience numbers which allows us to plan staffing.

Which features of TicketSource are most useful for you?

The tickets for our West End shows are not available to the general public. In order to control who buys tickets in line with our safeguarding policy, TicketSource enables us to set up a password for the booking process, which we then send to our students’ parents and guardians. We also use TicketSource’s free telephone box office service and give the number to parents so they can book over the phone. We also like the control we have over the seating plans. This allows us to assign accessible seating, reserve seating, and block out any areas.

Any final thoughts on TicketSource?

It’s absolutely fine for us. It’s a good event booking system that serves its purpose and works exactly for what we need it to do.
